It is the birthplace of the German Enlightenment philosopher and great poet Gotthold Ephraim Lessing and the center of West Lusatia. The town center is built up with magnificent, restored Renaissance houses. Kamenz is a small, quiet town where you can get around on foot or by city bus. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and offers plenty of sights. Even though Saxony is considered to be xenophobic, the people are lovely and hospitable. They make an effort to make their town attractive to foreigners, decorate it and cultivate its cultural treasures and Sorbian customs as well as modern life. In addition, there is a public discussion on urban development, the "2030 Vision Debate", in which the citizens are actively involved. It is exemplary: the age structure, for example, is a major topic. The city is focusing on making life equally attractive for families and senior citizens. The city administration and mayor have developed clear guides that list and describe all the services required to cope with everyday life for each age group. The Lessing town of Kamenz, known for the famous poet Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, is centrally located between Dresden and Bautzen in the beautiful West Lusatia region with a population of around 14,500. There are various shopping facilities in the immediate vicinity and public transport is close by, so you can reach the beautiful city center of Kamenz in just a few minutes. In addition, the connection to the A4 highway can be reached in approx. 10 minutes.
