A TRADITIONAL SIEDLING SHINES IN NEW GLORY

Velero is redeveloping the Jupp estate in Duisburg

The first houses in the Josefs-Kolonie, now known simply as the Jupp estate, were built back in 1880. It took several phases of expansion until 1930 to complete the estate as we know it today. Spacious gardens are located between the buildings, yet centrally located in what was once the largest Prussian village of Hamborn.

Tradition meets modernity

So much tradition became apparent in the apartments and on the buildings over time. Tenants and the public pointed out the advantages of “their” Juppsiedlung and that it needed a fresh start. Velero began extensive refurbishment measures in 2019. The aim was to significantly improve the quality of life without changing the charm of the estate.

So all the plastered façades were overhauled and given a new color scheme. The previously dark stairwells are now bright and friendly.

In addition to new doorbell and letterbox systems, intercoms were also installed. Completely new fenced-in bin areas were built.

Children now play in the completely redesigned playground. The gardens, some of which were overgrown and abandoned, were cleared and made available to new users.

With living spaces ranging from around 27 m² to 95 m² and between 1-4 room apartments, the Juppsiedlung was and is once again predestined for different phases of life and for different target groups. Young and old, singles, students, single parents and families. With a wide variety of floor plans, there is something for everyone.

The diversity that characterizes the Juppsiedlung now has a modern home in historic buildings. You can see this for yourself in our show apartment, directly above the tenants’ office at An der Abtei 42, where you can meet the janitor, manager and landlord. The distances in the Juppsiedlung are short.
