Velero supports the reconstruction of a school in Nepal

Spring 2015: A severe earthquake shakes large parts of Nepal and triggers a humanitarian catastrophe in the country. Even six years after the quake, the consequences are still visible and the reconstruction of schools, hospitals and other public facilities is progressing slowly. For almost 30 years, the “Nepal Children Overlack Foundation”, a project of the Overlack family from Rastatt, has been supporting local school projects and trying to alleviate the children’s greatest need.
Velero already supports several educational projects for children. I have known the Overlack family and their commitment in Nepal for a long time. They told me that money was urgently needed to rebuild the Shree Himalaya Secondary School in Gorje. So we decided to help,” says Thomas Lange, Managing Director of Velero. “The situation on the ground not only touched me, but our entire team. Together, we collected donations and approached partner companies. This resulted in a total of over 29,000 euros, which we were happy to pass on to the Overlack family.”

The “Nepal Kinder Overlack Stiftung” finances school projects in the rural, hard-to-reach regions of the Himalayan state. All donations go 100% towards rebuilding schools, equipping them or training teachers. The Overlack family bears the organization’s ancillary costs.
The 29,000 euros will be used for the earthquake-proof reconstruction of the Shree Himalaya Secondary School in Gorje, a village of 5,000 inhabitants in the mountains in the south-east of the country. Once completed, up to 500 pupils can be taught here. The school will then have modern facilities including computer rooms and sanitary facilities with running water.
“We firmly believe that only a good education can open up opportunities and prospects in life. I am delighted that we have been able to make a small contribution to this. I would like to thank all employees and the companies involved for their commitment,” said Lange.
