Object description

Over the last 30 years, the city of Duisburg has undergone a structural change in its economic development, moving away from coal and steel to become an educational and cultural region. A painful process that Duisburg shares with many other industrial locations in Germany. This has been accompanied by job losses, the collapse of purchasing power, a stagnating economy and dwindling population figures. It is not easy to explain this process to people. It means rethinking, relearning, reorienting... All of this is happening in this city. Many of the 500,000 or so inhabitants have changed their lives or are in the process of doing so. But what hasn't already happened? Dream landscapes of contrasts have been created. Brownfield sites have been turned into landscape parks, the former industrial port has become a leisure magnet, and the transformation is in full swing. Here, necessity and decay are being turned into virtue and metropolitan cultural life. And more than 40 thousand students populate Duisburg, a university city of distinction. This brings additional life to the pub and cultural scene. Almost anything can be studied here, from theology to applied technology. Hüttenwerke, Krupp, Thyssen and Mannesmann belong to the old era, now science rules in cooperation with business and industry. Duisburg is developing an attractive living environment for its residents. And who wouldn't want to be part of that?

Location

The district of Farhm and therefore our apartments in Netze-, Holtener- and Oderstraße, Warthestr. are located in this district. Walsum is the northernmost district of Duisburg. With around 50 thousand inhabitants and a functioning infrastructure, which includes schools, shopping facilities close to home and very good connections to Duisburg city center as well as leisure destinations for the whole family. The natural idyll awaits in Walsum. The Rheinaue Walsum, for example, is a nature reserve covering over 500 (!) hectares and is home to numerous plant and animal species. The Rhine ferry commutes very charmingly between Walsum and Orsoy on the left bank of the Lower Rhine. The ferry connection has existed since the turn of the century. You can get a real Ruhr area feeling in the listed Wehofensiedlung, a genuine colliery settlement. The disused collieries and industrial areas are integrated into the natural surroundings and are not foreign objects here, but living urban history. They are incorporated and simply used, which is not the worst way to deal with them. The future is Duisburg....
