Object description

The first Polish-speaking immigrants came to Duisburg-Hamborn around 1900. Within a few years, Hamborn developed into one of the centers of labor migration from the eastern, formerly Polish provinces of Prussia: in 1911, around a quarter of the approximately 20,000 miners were of Polish origin. At the Gewerkschaft Deutscher Kaiser, one third of the workers even had Polish roots. There were therefore also Polish businesses in the "Jupp colony".

Location

Hamborn is located to the north of the Duisburg Nord landscape park. The Jupp Colony is located between the A 59 and a large railroad line. To the south are hospitals and a grammar school. The Dichterviertel is a separate neighborhood within the urban area, with the Hamborn district as an important point of reference. The northern cemetery is located to the south, otherwise the area is surrounded by residential and mixed-use buildings.
